Sponsor Licence
A UK Sponsor Licence authorises employers to hire a foreign national to come and work in the UK.
When applying for a UK Sponsor Licence, an employer has to provide a lot of explanation and business documents to the Home Office. For example, the Home Office wants to check whether a business genuinely plans to hire someone to work in the UK and know the reasons why; the employer has to meet not only the immigration rules but also wider UK law; they need to have good HR systems in place to demonstrate they are able to manage the hired staff; and the Key Personnel have to meet other key criteria.
After the business obtains a licence and hires a worker, they have ongoing responsibilities to meet the immigration rules, wider UK law, report major changes to the company, sponsored staff’s circumstances etc. If the employer breaches the rules, their licence may be revoked and it will be harder to obtain one again.
